What a weekend!

Day 9,10 and 11 were a write off.....

I had lunch out on Friday at the Downtown Diner for $8.50.  I wasn't overly excited about the burger I had, but the fries are like chip wagon fries with sea salt...they were yummy and I would have them again.  Apparently the pork sliders are their thing so I will have to try those one day and see.  I got gas for $30.00.

Saturday was the day my niece stayed over.  We got a movie that I had a gift certificate for that was no cost to me.  We ate at the Honest Lawyer which has just opened.  I had the full coverage burger and it was tasty although I didn't get a lot of flavor from the caramelized onions and sauteed mushrooms, they had sea salt on the fries as well but this time coarse sea salt like you would get on a pretzel.  It was so enjoyable I dipped the fries in mayonnaise and then whatever little pieces of salt I could find on my plate.  She had the mini burgers and enjoyed 2 of them and some of my fries before she was full.  She had a coke and I had a beer they suggested that is similar to Stella but made by Molson, I was pleasantly surprised.  They charged me for a side of mayonnaise.....other than that prices were good and the experience cost me $38.00.  They have a number of games like pool, the basketball shooting game, a bowling alley and numerous video games that are mostly a dollar per play.  I am not sure if it was because my niece is so cute and sweet, they were not busy or because they were new and trying to make good first impressions but a couple of the staff actually took her to play the games and paid for them.  Service was good and food was good so I would go back again and am sure the next time my niece comes over she will want to....

Day 11:  NO spending day. Maybe the weekend wasn't a complete write off.  I went to the library for the afternoon while it rained and finished reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and totally enjoyed it.  It was interesting, kept my attention, moved well and wasn't written at a teenager level as I had expected.  I will have to see the movie now.  I cooked for myself....I hope you didn't fall off your chair.  I made tilapia and rice, nothing too exciting but I did crust it in panko and I didn't eat out.

Week 2: Monday-Thursday

Day 5:  NO spending day.  It was a quiet Monday. Day 6:  I spent approx $6.00 to fill a prescription. I should probably update you on another goal I had for this year.  I have been trying to make it to the gym twice a week since January.  It doesn't seem like a big goal but some weeks it is tough. Truthfully I haven't made it even once in the last  two weeks but I got back on track today with a bootcamp class at the YMCA I go to.  Although I am not noticing much difference in my weight or how I look I have noticed a substantial difference in how I feel......GREAT!  I am also hoping it will translate into an improved softball season. I may never be in the shape I was at 20 again but I can certainly try and be closer than I am now. Today was also lunch date day.....my coworker brought pulled pork sandwiches with carrot stick and cherry tomatoes.  She also made chocolate peanut butter squares....ummm delicious.  I will have to get that ...

So This is Christmas

So this is Christmas And what have you done? Another year over And a new one just begun And so this is Christmas I hope you have fun The near and the dear one The old and the young A very merry Christmas And a happy New Year Let's hope it's a good one Without any fear And so this is Christmas For weak and for strong For rich and the poor ones The world is so wrong And so happy Christmas For black and for white For yellow and red ones Let's stop all the fight I was reminded of this song at a dinner theatre I went to on Monday so I looked it up and here it is.  It is amazing that a song written so many years ago is still so relevant today.  You would think with evolution and technology and all the advances of today's world there would be no validity in songs like this.  Wrong! I only hope that we as citizens of the world can join forces as one in time to save ourselves.

I am cooking from the ingredients I have!

I found a website that allows you to put in the ingredients you have in your kitchen and then gives you recipes to use them.  I have added the gadget to my blog if you want to check out how it works.  I am going to try it because I am always trying to find new ways to prepare all the things I like to eat in my kitchen.  It takes recipes from a multitude of good cooking sites such as Martha Stewart, Epicurious, All recipes and more. this week I will try the puffed pancake with strawberries and I don't have to check because Supercook already figured that out for me......
