Back to Balance

Whew!!!!  That was a busy high season here in Nicaragua.

The hotelito portion of Dulce Mareas opened at the beginning of high season and was a great success this year.  We have had lots of reservations and the rooms were full most of the season with travelers, friends and people looking for a great space to stay for a few days.  We can't ask for anything more and look forward to more of the same for the upcoming year.  Why don't you come visit us?

However, it left both Chris and I a little ragged around the edges with the nonstop things to do, people to meet and so last week we found some place to go.......to relax.....just us.....and rebalance.

We had a spectacular week, starting in Costa Rica to renew my visa.  We didn't make it more than 20 minutes past the border and we found Cabanas Canas Castilla, a working farm with chalet style rooms, howler monkeys, a running river and lots of nature to hike.  We didn't stay long but it was just the right start to our road trip.  We came back to Nicaragua and had lunch in San Juan Del Sur.  I needed to say I have been there.....lunch was good but cities weren't for this road trip.  Onward to Laguna de Apoyo and a lovely place called CasAromannse, which normally offers yoga classes each morning, however, Sergi was not feeling well while we were there so there was no class.   Not to worry swimming in the laguna was really what we came for.  Again it was very peaceful and a beautiful property he has built into the side of the crater....with more howler monkeys, these ones right outside the window....no sleeping through that.   From there we decided to make our way up north and stayed at an ecolodge while visiting the cloud forest of Selva Negra.  Gorgeous views, great hikes, good food and more peace.  I almost forgot to mention the very moderate temperatures here, in fact I needed a blanket at night and for the first time since being here could have genuinely used a sweater.....I know hard to believe but true.  We stayed for a couple days and now have made our way home much more relaxed and ready to continue.

With all the sustainable living, farming and other such pursuits we saw I have come back with a renewed energy for creating balance in my life....through food, lifestyle choices, yoga and profession.  I also have some great new ideas to put into place but first it is April and I need to write about a new practice for the month.  Back to work here in paradise.

My Cup O Tea

Over the years I have become a fan of tea.  My favourites are non-caffeine.  Green Teas, herbal teas and rooibus.  Almost any loose leaf tea will do.  I once got chamomile tea from a friends parents and it was really just a whole baggie of chamomile flowers.....it was from a place in Sarnia, Ontario but I am not sure exactly where.  It just seems so much fresher when you can recognize it by sight.... In June while on vacation I found a tea store selling hand tied leaves.  What a fantastic aroma of jasmine.  It is the Madame Butterfly tea by Capital Teas (www.capitalteas.com).  It was very expensive and I just couldn't afford it but they certainly had lots of great teas. My most recent vacation in Florida found me in the Spice and Tea Exchange (www.spiceandtea.com) where I purchased a small bag of loose leaf hazelnut cookie tea.  Ceylon black base so not my usual herbal but wonderful smell and tastes very rich.  An enjoyable tea....

700 Hours of Learning....start now!

Here goes I am embarking on a two year adventure into myself and the world around me through yoga, massage, coaching and other modalities.  With this journey comes a great reading list and journaling.  This is not something I have ever been able to keep up, with much regularity, as you can see from my posts here.....lol One day I may succeed as I continue to practice for the next two years. I have received the reading list and am happy to have just finished Yoga Sequencing:  Designing Transformative Yoga Classes by Mark Stephens.  This book was suggested to me and for obvious reason, it is incredibly informative.  As a beginning yoga teacher it provided great pictures and foundations for infinite classes that I am now able to create.  It will continue to be on my bookshelf as an excellent reference, and I could reread it still getting useful information a second or third time.  Now I will delve further into this genre of reading with Yoga Anatomy by L...
