low Season....but not.....slow season

I have been putting some thought into this blog yet again and to be honest I have posted more this year than ever before....yay me I am proud of this accomplishment.  However!  I am nowhere near being consistent or hitting many of the points that all the blogging articles suggest for a successful blog.  Hmmmm.....a classic case of too much to do and too little time.  Here are a couple of ideas I am considering for upcoming posts and ongoing content to this site.   I am not sure what parts of my life you are interested in so if these ideas do not interest you, please let me know what you would like to see more of and I will try to accommodate.

1.  Garden expansion...... working towards sustainability?!

I have a bunch of seeds some of them old and some new and have purchased a few plants as well....so far I have planted lettuce, parsley, nasturtiums, onion, garlic, basil, peas, spinach, aloe vera, rosemary, and mint.  I have had very little luck with mint here but one of these times it will just take off.

Well, heavy rains sna-fooed my progress. Most of my potted plants died while I was in Canada.  I do still have spinach, roses, a couple of succulents and some hanging plants left but none of my specialty plants i was trying to grow.

This month I want to try tomato, cucumber, and melon......parsley, nasturtiums and a few others again until they grow.

2.  What I bookmarked!

Isvara is represented by a sound, om.....the yoga sutras by patanjali, 1.27

Clinging to life is instinctive and self-perpetuating, even for the wise....yoga sutras, 2.9

Funny that I have liked some of the sayings of Ralph Waldo Emerson for years and am just finding him linked in many ways to modern day yoga.

I have just completed all the reading for my current 200 hour teacher training.

For more of my reading, check out my list on www.goodreads.com.  I like to keep track and have a personal goal of 12 books to read this year.  I bet more than 75% of them will be yoga related.  I will still read a few more books before the end of the year and would like to join you to read them with me.

Each month I will post a book to read and at months end will update my progress or my thoughts on that book and am interested to read your comments about these books as well.

3.  What else is coming until the end of this year!

What I am not getting done on my blog I am getting done in real life.  Check out my offerings page for the events coming to On A Whim in November.

I am gearing up for high season now and working on a schedule for the studio and this site.

We have recently started a community events group in Las Penitas and are working with the other business owners in town to create some neat events for the community...like us on facebook.

My Cup O Tea

Over the years I have become a fan of tea.  My favourites are non-caffeine.  Green Teas, herbal teas and rooibus.  Almost any loose leaf tea will do.  I once got chamomile tea from a friends parents and it was really just a whole baggie of chamomile flowers.....it was from a place in Sarnia, Ontario but I am not sure exactly where.  It just seems so much fresher when you can recognize it by sight.... In June while on vacation I found a tea store selling hand tied leaves.  What a fantastic aroma of jasmine.  It is the Madame Butterfly tea by Capital Teas (www.capitalteas.com).  It was very expensive and I just couldn't afford it but they certainly had lots of great teas. My most recent vacation in Florida found me in the Spice and Tea Exchange (www.spiceandtea.com) where I purchased a small bag of loose leaf hazelnut cookie tea.  Ceylon black base so not my usual herbal but wonderful smell and tastes very rich.  An enjoyable tea....

Read and read again!

Energy Healing: The Essentials of Self Care This one resonated with me. I could hardly put it down and that is unusual for me with a book in this genre. It all started for me on page 10 with a great composite view of different energy anatomies that had been explained in the preceding pages. For me, it really brought together the Chinese medicine, Thai massage, chakras and aura system in relation to each other. The healing stories through opening our connections to the energy fields of the universe were motivating and interesting to read. The first exercise I tried was the first one in the book "toe tapping". It's a pretty simple exercise so following the instructions was easy. I only kept it up for about a week but I believe I did start to feel benefits. I like to meditate and I am always looking for new ideas. This book provided. I still want to try the metta meditation and many of the other meditations that are throughout the book. I still have a numb...
