The Heart of Yoga: Insight into my mission

As a new year starts..a review begins..and then the updates roll in...

My mission statement and profile in general have not changed in a couple years, but I sure have. The cooperative I teach with in Leon was also asked many months back about a mission statement.  How do 7 people make one mission?  Do all 7 people know their own mission?  Where do we start?

Right at the beginning of course..... Yoga means to come together; to unite.   "To attain what was previously unattainable"

The Heart of Yoga by T.K.V. Desikachar has given me some very valuable insights into who I've become, what I want and how to get it....

"we can begin practicing yoga from any starting point, but if we are to be complete human beings we must incorporate all aspects of ourselves, and do so step by step."

"Purusa denotes the position from which we can see;it is the power in us that enables us to perceive with accuracy."  p12

Svadhaya means; self study or investigation

through kriya yoga and quality of action

Yoga Sutra 2.1

Sthira and Sukha...steadiness and ease...ease in steadiness

"vinyasa krama... to place a step in a special way.  The concept of vinyasa krama tells us it is not enough to simply take a step; that step needs to take us in the right direction and be made in the right way."  p25

What is yoga after all?
This is a very personal journey that no 2 teachers or practitioners will experience the same.

My yoga includes pranayama, pratyhara, asana and a bit of ayurveda...I am finding my sthira and sukha now in many areas of my life.

I take away a philosophy of start anywhere at any pace its always changing and evolving. Use our best special steps forward and quality of action to achieve steadiness and ease, incorporating all parts of ourselves and always  being present in the journey......

Every year I choose a word....then I try to embody more of that word....last year was discipline.....This year I chose an acronym but word too....L.E.A.P.

Listen
Acro yoga is all about communication.....and a part is listening....do we only listen with our ears?  What about our bodies or other senses?  Acro has been a great reconnection for me, with my body in its more athletic form.

Educate
I have always liked lead by example myself.  So I try to incorporate it with educate this year.  I have already taken a workshop on Bach Flower Remedies in Spanish and a second Acro Yoga Workshop.  I have started a book club and will try to find at least one or 2 worskshops to teach this year.  I plan to take a first aid course in Spanish as well.

Adventure
My life is an adventure.  I am currently on a Nicaraguan journey having just acquired my residency that is valid for 5 years.  This year I want to go to Corn Islands and find a planner conference to attend.

Play
has become a powerful word in my vocabulary in the last year.  It provides an incredible balance to being an adult and embraces my inner child. Acro yoga and my bullet journal are adult expressions of gymnastics and colouring and the way they make me smile is a feeling I want to experience always.

My mission this year is to L.E.A.P. into......everything that resonates with me...... taking special steps forward in my journey, to find steadiness and ease, in every part of my existence.

Week 2: Monday-Thursday

Day 5:  NO spending day.  It was a quiet Monday. Day 6:  I spent approx $6.00 to fill a prescription. I should probably update you on another goal I had for this year.  I have been trying to make it to the gym twice a week since January.  It doesn't seem like a big goal but some weeks it is tough. Truthfully I haven't made it even once in the last  two weeks but I got back on track today with a bootcamp class at the YMCA I go to.  Although I am not noticing much difference in my weight or how I look I have noticed a substantial difference in how I feel......GREAT!  I am also hoping it will translate into an improved softball season. I may never be in the shape I was at 20 again but I can certainly try and be closer than I am now. Today was also lunch date day.....my coworker brought pulled pork sandwiches with carrot stick and cherry tomatoes.  She also made chocolate peanut butter squares....ummm delicious.  I will have to get that ...

So This is Christmas

So this is Christmas And what have you done? Another year over And a new one just begun And so this is Christmas I hope you have fun The near and the dear one The old and the young A very merry Christmas And a happy New Year Let's hope it's a good one Without any fear And so this is Christmas For weak and for strong For rich and the poor ones The world is so wrong And so happy Christmas For black and for white For yellow and red ones Let's stop all the fight I was reminded of this song at a dinner theatre I went to on Monday so I looked it up and here it is.  It is amazing that a song written so many years ago is still so relevant today.  You would think with evolution and technology and all the advances of today's world there would be no validity in songs like this.  Wrong! I only hope that we as citizens of the world can join forces as one in time to save ourselves.

I am cooking from the ingredients I have!

I found a website that allows you to put in the ingredients you have in your kitchen and then gives you recipes to use them.  I have added the gadget to my blog if you want to check out how it works.  I am going to try it because I am always trying to find new ways to prepare all the things I like to eat in my kitchen.  It takes recipes from a multitude of good cooking sites such as Martha Stewart, Epicurious, All recipes and more. this week I will try the puffed pancake with strawberries and I don't have to check because Supercook already figured that out for me......
