2020 Cookbook Club

2020 Cookbook Club

Join me each month as we explore vegetarian, vegan and ayurvedic cooking. I have chosen a number of my favourite cookbooks and some new ones I haven’t tried, but all are renowned authors and respected experts in their fields. Choose your recipes to make and post pictures in the group of your creations from the books each month. Every Thursday will be throwback Thursday where you can cook from any of the books of previous months or your favourite cookbook, using the hashtag #tbt. In December we will vote on a book from the January favourites you used.

The bonus book for the whole year is The complete book of Ayurvedic home remedies, Vassant Lad M.A.Sc. While this book does not have recipes it has extensive food lists, breathing, meditation and yoga suggestions. It is a worthwhile read for anyone interested in ayurveda written by one of the most respected experts on ayurvedic living.

January: cook from your favourite cookbook and post a picture with the name and author of that book.

February: Ayurveda: A life of balance, Maya Tiwari. This is one of my favourite books. It has a wealth of great information and recipes.

March: Salad Samurai-100 cutting edge, ultra hearty, easy to make salads you don’t have to be vegan to love, Terry Hope Romero. This book is written by the co author of Veganomica.

April: The Everyday Ayurveda Cookbook, Kate O’Donnell.

May: Thug Kitchen, The official cookbook: Eat like you give f*ck, Thug Kitchen. You may also use the recipes found on the internet site, www.thugkitchen.com. As written in the title a bit explicit in language and easy and unique recipes.

June: The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook-Healthful, healing recipes for life, Amrita Sondhi.

July: Six Seasons, A New way with Vegetables, Josh Mc Fadden. While this book is not completely vegetarian, the recipes in this book will change the way you look at salads, herbs and food combinations. I have loved every recipe in this book.

August: The Tastes of Ayurveda, More healthful, healing recipes for the modern ayurvedic, Amrita Sondhi. This is one of the books that cook with me featured last year.

September: Gluten-free Vegetarian Family cookbook, Susan O’Brien. For the gluten-free among us. I have not tried this book but look forward to the adventure.

October: My New Roots: Inspired Plant-based recipes for every season, Sarah Britton.

November: Vegan with a Vengence, Isa Chandra Moskowitz. Originally the author of the blog Post Punk Kitchen she has gone on to write numerous vegan cookbooks. You may also cook recipes form the website, www.theppk.com.

December: We will vote on all the books that you chose in January and pick one to cook for this month.

Week 2: Monday-Thursday

Day 5:  NO spending day.  It was a quiet Monday. Day 6:  I spent approx $6.00 to fill a prescription. I should probably update you on another goal I had for this year.  I have been trying to make it to the gym twice a week since January.  It doesn't seem like a big goal but some weeks it is tough. Truthfully I haven't made it even once in the last  two weeks but I got back on track today with a bootcamp class at the YMCA I go to.  Although I am not noticing much difference in my weight or how I look I have noticed a substantial difference in how I feel......GREAT!  I am also hoping it will translate into an improved softball season. I may never be in the shape I was at 20 again but I can certainly try and be closer than I am now. Today was also lunch date day.....my coworker brought pulled pork sandwiches with carrot stick and cherry tomatoes.  She also made chocolate peanut butter squares....ummm delicious.  I will have to get that ...

Read and read again!

Energy Healing: The Essentials of Self Care This one resonated with me. I could hardly put it down and that is unusual for me with a book in this genre. It all started for me on page 10 with a great composite view of different energy anatomies that had been explained in the preceding pages. For me, it really brought together the Chinese medicine, Thai massage, chakras and aura system in relation to each other. The healing stories through opening our connections to the energy fields of the universe were motivating and interesting to read. The first exercise I tried was the first one in the book "toe tapping". It's a pretty simple exercise so following the instructions was easy. I only kept it up for about a week but I believe I did start to feel benefits. I like to meditate and I am always looking for new ideas. This book provided. I still want to try the metta meditation and many of the other meditations that are throughout the book. I still have a numb...

Another Week

Monday Today I spent $5.21 on ingredients for the lunch I am making for my Tuesday lunch date.  A few weeks ago I made roasted cauliflower with brown butter and linguine.  I did not enjoy it at all and would not make it again.....but I turned the left over roasted cauliflower into soup and froze it.  It is absolutely delicious, I had a bowl for lunch today. Tuesday I bought a cup of tea for $1.77.  I made an asparagus goat cheese toss for my lunch date today.....wow yummy.. I found the recipe on the Canadian Living website.   I will definitely make that again and it was so easy to make. Wednesday NO spending day!  What I did do is finish the third book in The Hunger Games trilogy.  That means I read all three books since last Saturday.  It is a great series even for an adult.  I could hardly put it down.  Now I need to find something else to read.  Any suggestions? Thursday I got gas and took out $20 in cash....so $40 tota...
