Bring back gardens, seed saving and nutritious food, please....

I have always been against Monsanto and it's chemicals as well as genetically modified foods.  I have tried to buy organic and local or grow my own for many years and it's in times like this it's worth trying to make change in an entire industry..so here goes.

I have been inspired to write this because I am reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.  So far I am on page 56 of 354...I see more of these posts in my future before I finish this book.   P.S. I love to garden and eat good food as well.

My hope is that more and more people will go back to gardening and producing their own vegetables or at least be more conscious of what they are putting into their body and the nutrients the things they buy have or don't have.  Our bodies can only digest so much in one day so we need to be fastidious about what we put in on a given day if we do not want to be obese...are you nourishing yours?

I urge everyone reading this to read the labels on the items you purchase and use that power to show industry and governments that we do have a say and they can't just stuff whatever they want down our throats...literally.  Ask for those labels to include whether the product contains genetically modified ingredients.  We have plenty of time to be wary and conscientious about what we eat right now...so make it count.  Let's come out of this healthier and with a renewed vigor for mother nature and all the products she has happily supplied humans for eternity.

Food supply chains are closing and falling into disarray with the current pandemic, so there has never been a better time to hit these companies where it hurts, because together we can change the face of food production and transport.  Do you really want out of season fruit and vegetables without taste?  I certainly don't and am very grateful, that while I live in one of the poorest nations in Central America, our fruit and vegetables are mostly grown in country and are only available in season...there are months that we go without mangoes and avocados, but when they are in season I have never tasted anything better.  We don't have apples or pumpkins, strawberries, raspberries or mushrooms except at prohibitive prices, because they are never in season here.  Even better is to make a little garden and grow what you need for your family...Any amount will help or grow extra and trade with your neighbours.
I know communities can be built around food, so let's use food to strengthen the communities we live in and our neighbours.  A closer link to nature and our food chain will rejuvenate our empathy for the earth and mother nature.

Check out www.animalvegetablemiracle.com to find organizations we can rally behind to make significant changes to our food supply.  Find local producers and farmers and buy direct...help them survive while we make sure Monsanto and the many other bohemoth companies only interested in profit and patents go bankrupt.  They have certainly bankrupted our food supply of heirlooms and nutrition.

My Cup O Tea

Over the years I have become a fan of tea.  My favourites are non-caffeine.  Green Teas, herbal teas and rooibus.  Almost any loose leaf tea will do.  I once got chamomile tea from a friends parents and it was really just a whole baggie of chamomile flowers.....it was from a place in Sarnia, Ontario but I am not sure exactly where.  It just seems so much fresher when you can recognize it by sight.... In June while on vacation I found a tea store selling hand tied leaves.  What a fantastic aroma of jasmine.  It is the Madame Butterfly tea by Capital Teas (www.capitalteas.com).  It was very expensive and I just couldn't afford it but they certainly had lots of great teas. My most recent vacation in Florida found me in the Spice and Tea Exchange (www.spiceandtea.com) where I purchased a small bag of loose leaf hazelnut cookie tea.  Ceylon black base so not my usual herbal but wonderful smell and tastes very rich.  An enjoyable tea....

Read and read again!

Energy Healing: The Essentials of Self Care This one resonated with me. I could hardly put it down and that is unusual for me with a book in this genre. It all started for me on page 10 with a great composite view of different energy anatomies that had been explained in the preceding pages. For me, it really brought together the Chinese medicine, Thai massage, chakras and aura system in relation to each other. The healing stories through opening our connections to the energy fields of the universe were motivating and interesting to read. The first exercise I tried was the first one in the book "toe tapping". It's a pretty simple exercise so following the instructions was easy. I only kept it up for about a week but I believe I did start to feel benefits. I like to meditate and I am always looking for new ideas. This book provided. I still want to try the metta meditation and many of the other meditations that are throughout the book. I still have a numb...
